Sports Physicals & CPR - Denver October 2017

Doctors of chiropractic may perform Pre-Participation Physical Examinations (PPE) for student athletes in Colorado. Although DCs possess the education and clinical judgment to perform such physicals, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) regulations require initial certification and additional re-certification every two years. A DC who is certified through the CCA’s course must re-certify on or before their expiration date.

Robert Nelson, DC, DACBSP, CCEP, CSCS, FIAMA, FICC is a 1986 graduate of Logan Chiropractic College and maintains a private practice in Lakewood, Colorado. He serves on the post graduate faculty for Palmer and Western States Colleges of Chiropractic. He has also taught for Parker, Logan and Northwestern Colleges of Chiropractic. A member and president of the Colorado Chiropractic Sports Council for over 9 years, Dr. Nelson has won numerous awards in the field of sports chiropractic. In 1998, he was honored by the ACA Sports Council for his outstanding service to the profession of sports chiropractic and in 1996, he was given an outstanding service award by the Wrangler Sports Chiropractic program for his work with the Pro Rodeo Cowboy’s Association (PRCA). He has been awarded the CCA Sports Award 5 times. In 2008, he was awarded the ACBSP’s Sports Chiropractor of the year. In 2010 he recieved the Leonard Schroeder Award for the Best Original Research. He is a past president of the CCA, the president of the ACBSP and the Colorado delegate to the ACA. He served as team chiropractor for the Pro-Jet Ski Tour, Pro Snowboard Tour, PRCA rodeos, regional and world finals of the Triple Crown of Softball, NFL Four on Four football tournament and the NIKE Youth Soccer Tournament. 

Monty Wilburn, DC, CCSP served as a circuit coordinator for the Pro Sports Chiropractic Program and is one of Colorado’s first Wrangler Sports chiropractic doctors.  He has personally provided chiropractic treatment to over 1,000 cowboys in the course of 100 rodeos.  Since 1991, Dr. Wilburn has been extremely active with the CCA.  He has served in many different capacities as board member and committee chair.  He is a two-time winner of the CCA Young Chiropractor of the Year award.  In 1992, Dr. Wilburn revived the Fort Collins Chiropractic Association and has served as their president and as a board member.  A 1990 graduate of Los Angeles Chiropractic College, Dr. Wilburn maintains a private practice in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Mark Wolff, DC, DABCO, DACAN is a Board Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist, a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, and has 30 years in private chiropractic practice in Lakewood, Colorado. He is a 1980 graduate of Texas Chiropractic College served as Past President of the Jefferson County Chiropractic Society and the Colorado Chiropractic Association. Dr. Wolff was certified as a Red Cross First Aid Instructor in the mid 1980s, then was certified as a Medic First Aid Instructor in 2001, certified as an Emergency First Response Instructor in 2002, and is currently certified as an Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer since 2008. Dr. Wolff has certified hundreds of doctors and lay people to perform CPR, AED and first aid procedures. He has also certified a number of people as CPR/AED/first aid instructors.
