Sports Physicals & CPR - Colorado Springs August 2017

Doctors of chiropractic may perform Pre-Participation Physical Examinations (PPE) for student athletes in Colorado. Although DCs possess the education and clinical judgment to perform such physicals, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) regulations require initial certification and additional re-certification every two years. A DC who is certified through the CCA’s course must re-certify on or before their expiration date.

A minimum of 5 attendees is required for each part of this course to move forward with both portions of this course. 

 

****Please note: If you are registering for CPR, your email address will be shared with the CPR instructor in order to receive your CPR card. They are sent electronically. By registering for CPR, you consent to your email address being shared to receive your CPR card. 

 

Participants will need to enter the complex using the Boulder entry control point located next to Memorial Hospital. The CoE Room is located in Bldg 2b. This is a secure area so they will need to be scanned in upon arrival. Mention to the security guard you are attending the SPORTS MEDICINE CLASS.

William J. Moreau

Bill Moreau, DC, DACBSP, FACSM, is a chiropractic sports medicine physician and evidence based clinician. He has lead sports medicine for the United States Olympic Committee after more than 25 years of private practice. Moreau develops the USOC sports medicine strategy and oversees all Team USA sports medicine activities including; clinics, games and the National Medical Network.  Dr. Moreau served as the Medical Director for Team USA at the London 2012 Summer and Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games and as the first doctor of chiropractic in the world to serve as an Olympic Games Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He has managed the care of thousands of athletes. 

He has been featured in USA Today, Time, ESPN, NPR, NBC, the New York Times, GE Healthcare News, the US Department of Health and Human Services, Army Strategic Studies Group and the Allegany Healthcare Summit. 

Dr. Moreau has a special interest in sports medicine research centered on the prevention of injury and illness in athletes and concussion. He serves on the NFL International Think Tank on Concussion Research. Moreau has successfully presented over 700 invited lectures throughout the United States and Internationally.  

 

Dr. Kevin Schroeder is an athletic trainer at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center with the Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling programs.  He was a member of the 2015 ParaPan America Games Medical Staff in Toronto, Canada and the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he worked closely with the Paralympic Judo Team.  Prior to taking his position at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center/Colorado Center of Orthopedic Excellence, Kevin worked in both the NCAA Division I and III levels, the Arena Football League, and an instructor and clinical education coordinator for the University of Mount Union’s Athletic Training Program. 

 

Kevin is a graduate from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, the University of Pittsburgh with a Master of Science in Health, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Sciences, and the University of Idaho with a Doctorate in Athletic Training.  Kevin’s research focuses on manual therapy treatment paradigms, including Mobilizations with Movement and their influence on patient-oriented outcomes.
