This webinar aims to be an introduction that updates the clinical knowledge of participants to understand the best management options for scoliosis. 

 

It will update the practical skills for Chiropractors when assessing and managing the scoliosis patient, and bring the Clinician up-to-date with the latest evidenced based information about scoliosis screening, diagnosis and non-surgical management.

 

Importantly this webinar will help to define the role of the chiropractor in the health care community, when chiropractic management and treatment are appropriate and when collaboration and co-management are the best option. 

 

Specific learning outcomes include:

1.     Understand how to accurately perform a scoliosis screening consistent with the 2015 SRS guidelines

2.     Differentiate between scoliotic and non-scoliotic postural deviations. 

3.     Understand the keys to an effective clinical examination including specific neurological and orthopaedic tests that are important for pathological screening in scoliosis 

4.     Differentiate between the treatment and management options for children and adults.

5.     Understand modern scoliosis bracing and how it differs from traditional approaches, including the evidence behind modern bracing approaches 

Understand the latest evidence based information on scoliosis specific rehabilitation protocol 

 

About the Speakers:

Dr. Jeb McAviney BSc., MChiro, MPain Med

 

Dr McAviney is a dedicated scoliosis clinician and researcher who holds a Masters of Chiropractic, a Masters of Pain Medicine, and has completed ISICO's inaugural World Masters Scoliosis course.

 

Over the past decade he has studied a wide range of scoliosis rehabilitation and bracing techniques from around the world to understand, compare, and provide the most evidence-based approaches to combating this complicated condition.

 

As well as running several scoliosis clinics in Australia, Dr McAviney lectures at universities and conferences and is an internationally recognised speaker, presenting in over 17 countries. He has published spinal research in JMPT, is an editor of European Spine Journal and is an active member of SOSORT. Dr McAviney is also the inventor of the ScoliRoll orthotic and the ScoliBrace system which is used around the world.

 

Dr. Chris Gubbels DC, CCWP, BSc

Dr Chris Gubbels is the clinic director of Square ONE Advanced Spine Correction center and specializes in conservative treatment of scoliosis, spinal deformities and spinal injuries.

Dr Gubbels holds an Advanced Certification in Chiropractic BioPhysics and has presented cases on conservative treatment and management of scoliosis at international research conferences including SOSORT, The International Scientific Society On Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation, annual conference. 

Dr Gubbels has participated in multiple advanced scoliosis trainings covering the topics of bracing for scoliosis and kyphosis and conservative treatment and management of scoliosis and kyphosis.
