The radiation program of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is looking for feedback from stakeholders regarding proposed changes to the Colorado x-ray regulations. Specifically, changes are being proposed for the Code of Colorado Regulations (6 CCR 1007-1), Part 6 (X-ray Imaging in the Healing Arts) and Part 2 (Registration of Radiation Machines, Facilities and Services).

CDPHE hasn’t met regarding these x-ray machine regulations since 2017, but it has renewed its efforts to gather feedback from stakeholders.

What Changes Are Being Considered?

Colorado law requires the state’s radiation regulations, including Part 6 and Part 2, to be consistent with the model suggested state regulations of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD). The CRCPD model regulation equivalent to Part 6 is known as Part F. In 2015, changes were made to the Part F model regulation, and CDPHE has incorporated many of them in proposed rules.

The Part 6 regulation changes cover a variety of topics that affect medical facilities and uses of x-ray machines in diagnostic medicine (healing arts), including x-ray machines in dental offices. Refer to the CDPHE website for details or check out the list of proposed changes.

How to Participate

The meeting is being held June 13, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at CDPHE (4300 Cherry Creek Dr. South, Denver CO, 80246). If you cannot attend the meeting in person, you may participate by submitting comments until August 29, 2018 via email to
